MinT vows to shore up e-commerce based startups, generate more jobs

Addis Ababa, November 1, 2023 (FBC) – The Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MinT), in partnership with Iceaddis and MasterCard Foundation, has organized a fintech demo aimed at fostering startup technologies engaged in e-commerce.

The demo is intended to link participating e-commerce technology companies and startups with potential investors.

Technology companies and startups engaged in e-commerce based businesses are displaying their products and services at the showcase event which kicked off in Addis Ababa on Tuesday.

In his remark at the showcase event, the State Minister for Innovation and Technology, Yishurun Alemayehu (PhD), stated that the institution is working to support some 100 e-commerce based startups there by generating more than 56,000 new jobs in the sector in the next three years.

Creating youth and women led jobs and generating foreign currency are among the pillars of the Digital Ethiopia 2025, the State Minister said, highlighting the role of technology jobs in realizing such a strategy.

Abebe Chekol, Digital Economy Division Head at the MasterCard Foundation, for his part, appreciated MinT’s ongoing efforts to ensure inclusion and increase benefits for the youth in this regard.
