Ministry, stakeholders discuss ways to promote Ethiopian High Land Leather in Africa
Addis Ababa, January 22, 2021 (FBC) -The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, in collaboration with Ethiopian Leather Industries Association (ELIA), held an online discussion yesterday to promote ‘Ethiopian High Land Leather’ to the African market.
The Ethiopian missions in Kampala, Pretoria, Abuja, Accra, and Rabat have participated in the meeting.
Addressing participants, Tsion Teklu affirmed that the Ministry would work with ELIA to expand market reach to the country’s leather products in Africa.
She commended the government of Japan for its contribution to the success of export promotion activities to ‘Ethiopian Highland Leather’ through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Based on further market demand assessments, Tsion said, two Ethiopian missions in African countries will be selected in the current fiscal year to create market linkages through trade fairs and other activities through the JICA project.
At the end of the meeting, participants stated that Ethiopia has potential in the leather sector, and it is necessary to expand its market access, including African countries.
JICA has been promoting Ethiopian Highland Leather (EHL) since 2015 in its pledge to promote quality products in Ethiopia and ensure that there will be a market for them.
