Explaining Ethiopia’s steadily growing revenue performance trend during the reform period, Revenue Minister Aynalem Nigussie stated that maximizing domestic income has been a major priority to facilitate development plans.
Recall that the government designed a new revenue strategy and took concrete measures to reform tax policy and improve tax administration, with a view to enhancing and strengthening revenue collection efforts.
Enhancing domestic revenue performance aligns with the improvement of infrastructures and overall development aspirations of the Ethiopian people, Minister Aynalem stated.
The minister noted that the revenue collection process has undergone numerous fundamental reforms in recent years.
These reforms have been leading to enhanced capacity for revenue generation, she pointed out.
For instance, policies and legal frameworks have been improved while leveraging technological innovations to enhance service delivery, Aynalem indicated.
She further emphasized that these enhancements have been resulting in substantial improvements in the overall revenue collection process.
Reflecting the previous revenue performance trend, Aynalem recalled that federal revenue in 2017/18 fiscal year was just 176 billion Birr.

She also elaborated that the revenue collection efforts are focused on bolstering the country’s economic reform measures and ensuring a sustainable financial foundation.
