Ministry of Health gets ambulances, medical supplies through EU-IGAD COVID 19 response project

Addis Ababa, April 30, 2022 (FBC) – Ministry of Health had a handover of two basic ambulances, one advanced ambulance, one mobile laboratory and half a million pairs of nitrile gloves through the EU-IGAD COVID-19 response project to enhance cross-border health in the fight against COVID-19 and other diseases.

Heads and representatives of international and regional organizations including Executive Secretary of IGAD, Workneh Gebeyehu (PhD) have attended the handover ceremony.

The supplies are aimed expedite vaccination and related services in cross-border areas of Galafi, Metema and Moyale as part of the EU-IGAD COVID19 Response program, according to IGAD Secretariat Spokesperson.

The support is also said instrumental to strengthen the health response in the country and enable greater responsiveness to health emergencies in the cross-border areas in Ethiopia.

Moreover, a Trilateral MOUs have been signed between IGAD, Health ministries of Djibouti and Ethiopia, Gondar and Jigjia Universities and Ethiopian Food and Drug Administration (EFDA) to accelerate cross-border access to COVID vaccine and Risk Communication and Communication Engagement.

The Health Minister Dr. Lia Tadesse expressed gratitude to EU, IGAD and UNOPS for the facilitation of the donation.
