Ministry of Health administering COVID-19 vaccine being in Tigray Region

Addis Ababa January 18, 2023 (FBC) – The Ministry of Health has announced that COVID-19 and other regular vaccines are being administered in the Tigray region.

Melkamu Ayalew, Head of the Maternal and Child Immunization Desk of the Ministry, said that following the peace agreement, many works are being carried out in the health sector, including the reopening of health institutions and resumption of services in war affected areas.

Melkamu Ayalew added that, vaccines for COVID-19 and for other major diseases have been sent to the region.

Delegation of health professionals who provide service are deployed in different areas of the region, he explained.

He further explained that the vaccination program is being undertaken in collaboration with UNICEF and the World Health Organization to accelerate it.

Preparation are finalized to to dispatch additional vaccines to the region to continue the measles vaccination which has already been started at the national level, he added.

Head of the Maternal and Child Immunization Desk exclusively told FBC that discussions have been held with the relevant stakeholders to fast track vaccination and preventive activities in the region.
