Ministry launches National Red Meat Strategy
Addis Ababa, November 18, 2022, (FBC) – The Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) announced the launching of National Red Meat Strategy in the country to boost products and productivity in the sector.
According to the Ministry, Ethiopia stands 6th in livestock resources in the world. However, it has not addressed the expected meat products for the increasing urbanizations and populations that results 6.7 Kg meat per capita consumption.
National Red Meat Strategy has been organized for increasing: the products and productivities of animals for red meat, export, market systems, and to feed industries, stated MoA.
Tsigereda Fekadu, CEO of Livestock and Fisheries dev’t in Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) remarks that the launched four years development campaign “Yelemat Tirufat” focuses on nutrition shows that the government gives special attention for livestock sector.
Red meat development is one of the major elements of the 10 years plan of MoA (10 in 10 initiative program) that red meat contributes for youths and women who engage in red meat chains, Tsigereda mentions.
Several duties have been conducted to collect over 1.7 million tons Red Meat at the end of Ethiopian fiscal year, she confirmed.
