Ministry hands over 500 water pumps, 30 tractors to Afar region

Addis Ababa, December 30, 2022 (FBC) – The FDRE Ministry of Irrigation and Lowlands (MoIL) handed over 500 water pumps and 30 tractors to the Afar region.

The Minister of MoIL, Aisha Mohammed, handed over the machines to the chief administrator of Afar Region, Awol Arba.

The Minister, in her speech at the handing over ceremony, said that the support will play a critical role in the efforts being made to engage the youth of the region into the agriculture sector.

Awol Arba, for his part, said that the support will greatly help to increase productivity by utilizing areas affected by water shortages and floods in the region.

Birhanu Lenjiso, Minister of State for Irrigation, confirmed that the support will continue to be strengthened.

According to the Ministry’s post on social media, efforts are being made to complete and put into operation the irrigation projects in the region that have the potential to develop more than 120,000 hectares starting from the Middle Awash.
