Minister held discussion with U.S. child adoption officers
Addis Ababa, February 10, 2023 (FBC) – Ergogie Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs held discussion with U.S. Child Adoption Officers led by Gabriel Kaypaghian, Council General of the Embassy of the United States of America to Ethiopia.
At the meeting, Ergogie welcomed the members of the delegation in her office and commended the longstanding relationship of Ethiopia and the U.S, the Ministry stated.
According to the Ministry, she has also informed the duties and responsibility of the ministry that comprise the function of women, children, youth, elders, persons with disabilities and many others.
She also further explained the drawback of previous child adoption proclamations and the new family proclamation articles that deal with child issues.
The Ministry, in its social media post, indicated that the discussion was focused on the child adoptions of law and regulation that deals with what the law prohibits and allows in domestic as well as abroad.
Dane Nielsen, adoptions Officer of Children’s Issues Bureau of Consular Affairs U.S Department of state on his part has shared the experience of other African countries on child adoptions and raised the interest of U.S. citizens to adopt Ethiopian children, it was stated.
