Minister calls for synergy among Africans for sustainable future of the continent
Addis Ababa, August 19,2023 (FBC) – The Minister of Planning and Development of Ethiopia, Fitsum Asefa, has called on fellow African countries to work together and to make progress towards a sustainable future for the continent
She made the call during her closing remarks at the 19th African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN) which concluded yesterday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The conference, which was held under the theme “Seizing Opportunities and Enhancing Collaboration to Address Environmental Challenges in Africa,” brought together ministers of environment from across the continent to discuss and agree on a number of decisions and declarations.
It is learned that one of the key outcomes of the conference was the adoption of the Addis Ababa Declaration, which sets out a number of commitments for African countries to take in order to address the continent’s environmental challenges.
It is stated that Ethiopia took the AMCEN presidency from Senegal for the next two years. The Minister chaired the two-day high-level segment of the conference, which was attended by a number of high-level officials.
In her closing remarks, Fitsum Asefa said that the AMCEN had been a success and that it had “sent a strong signal of Africa’s commitment to addressing its environmental challenges.”
She called on all African countries to work together and to make progress towards a sustainable future for the continent.
The 19th AMCEN was a significant event for Africa and it is hoped that the decisions and declarations that were adopted will have a positive impact on the continent’s environment.
The conference also demonstrated the growing importance of environmental cooperation in Africa and the commitment of African countries to addressing the continent’s environmental challenges.
