Military attachés of several countries visit GERD project site
Addis Ababa, November 10, 2023 (FBC) – Military attachés of several countries based in Addis Ababa have visited the project site of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) at Guba.
Manager of the GERD Project, Engineer Kiflie Horro, briefed the military attachés on the overall attributes of the dam.
The water from the dam returns to its natural watercourse once it powers the turbines, Kiflie told the military attachés, explaining that the dam will not cause any harm to the riparian countries.
The dam which has reached over 97pct completion is said to accelerate the African development apart from addressing the power gap in the continent, it was stated on the visiting session. GERD will also play a crucial role in expediting regional as well as continental economic integration.
The visitors noted Ethiopia’s huge untapped natural resources, appreciating nation’s determination and capability to have realized the Grand Renaissance Dam amid several challenges. They current status of the dam attests to Ethiopia’s capability to grow fast providing it fully ensures peace, the military attachés said.
Military attachés of close to 60 countries have participated in the visiting session that was organized by the Foreign Relations and Military Cooperation Directorate-General of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF).
