Addis Ababa, December 6, 2022 (FBC) – The city of Mekele, which was cut off from the national power grid for more than a year due to the conflict in northern Ethiopia, has been reconnected to the national power control center (Grid), the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) announced.
Moges Mekonen, Communications Director of Ethiopian Electric Power, said that the line was connected to the National Power Control Center after the maintenance of the 230 kV high power transmission line from Alamata-Mehoni was completed.
Distribution station and transmission line maintenance experts from all regions participated in the inspection and maintenance of the line under the coordination of the EEP Northeast Region.
The commencement of repair and service of the line will speed up the work to restore power supply in the Tigray region.
Meanwhile, the maintenance of the 230 kV transmission line from Humera to Shire has been completed, EEP mentioned.
Meanwhile, due to heavy damage in eight areas of the line from Tekeze to Axum, the repair work has been continued to the Tekeze power station, according to the report by the Ethiopian News Agency.
