Mayor of Addis Ababa holds talks with Executive Director of C40 Cities
Addis Ababa, June 4, 2024 (FBC) – Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administrations, Ms. Adanech Abiebie, has held a discussion with the Executive Director of C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, Mark Watts, in Singapore on the sidelines of the ongoing World Cities Summit 2024.
Note that Mayor Adanech is attending the World Cities Summit (WCS) 2024 in Singapore.
In a social media post, Ms. Adanech stated that she and the C40 Cities Executive Director discussed ways to enhance the cooperation between Addis Ababa city and C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group.
She mentioned that they have also advised on future areas of cooperation, including increasing cooperation in solid waste disposal and recycling of solid waste, expanding green development activities, and building inclusive public accommodation areas.
The Mayor added that since 2012 Addis Ababa has been a member of the C40 Cities, which has been providing various financial, technical, and capacity-building supports to the capital in the past.
The 9th edition of the World Cities Summit is being held from 2 to 4 June 2024, in Singapore. This 3-day event comprised the main conference and other key events such as the WCS Mayors Forum, WCS Young Leaders Symposium, the Lee Kuan Yew World Prize Award Ceremony and Banquet, and an exhibition.
The biennial World Cities Summit is being held under the theme “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Rejuvenate, Reinvent, Reimagine.”
C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group is a global network of nearly 100 world-leading cities that are “united in action” to confront the climate crisis and create a future where everyone can thrive. It represents one twelfth of the world’s population and one quarter of the global economy.
