Maintenance of infrastructures in Amhara region underway: GCS Minister
Addis Ababa, August 11, 2023 (FBC) – The FDRE Government Communication Services Minister Legese Tulu said that efforts are already underway to repair the infrastructures destroyed by the robber forces in Amhara region and return them to service.
In his statement regarding the current situation in Amhara region, the Government Communication Service Minister indicated that consultations were made with foreign and local visitors who were trapped in Bahr Dar and Gonder during the violence regarding their intentions whether they wish to complete their tours or otherwise.
The Minister stated that remnants of the violent bandit tried to hide in religious and heritage sites. Media outlets affiliated to the bandit group attempted to confuse the people by spreading fake information accusing of the National Defense Forces destroyed the heritage sites and killing civilians, Legese asserted.
He said that this futile attempt was foiled thanks to the wise approach of the national defense forces and the region’s people who understood the truth.
Aiming to achieve its goal of robbery by overthrowing government structures in the Amhara region, the group initiated violence in major cities of the region, the GCS Minister said.
To contain the violence in the region, the federal government declared a state of emergency and established the General Directorate of State of Emergency to prevent the cities from heading towards the further disaster, he recalled.
The Minister called on the whole people of the region to provide the necessary support to government security forces in the bid to return the region to its former peace and the farmers of the Amhara region to focus on their Meher growing season.
