Macroeconomic committee discuss COVID-19 impact on economy
Addis Ababa, May 16, 2020 (FBC) -The national macroeconomic committee met today to discuss the impact of the coronavirus (COVID19) pandemic on the economy.
The committee also deliberated on budgetary preparations for the next fiscal year as well as evaluated this year’s economic performance.
“Despite the pandemic driven global economic slowdown, we are committed to overcoming without interruption to projects started and productivity of various sectors,” said the Prime Minister in a Facebook post.
According to the Prime Minister, the committee also expressed its commitment to increasing foreign currency reserves as well as maintaining on-going efforts for debt cancellation and restructuring.
The macroeconomic committee is the central organ that coordinates economic policy making within the government.
Chaired by the Prime Minister, it has close to 10 members including the Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Ministers from Finance, Planning, Revenues and senior economic advisers.
