Leaders of several countries arrive in Addis Ababa ahead of Sudan peace talks
Addis Ababa, July 9, 2023 (FBC) – Leaders of several countries and international organizations will converge tomorrow in Addis Ababa to negotiate Sudan’s warring forces in a bid to end the crisis peacefully.
Heads of state and government of various countries and representatives of international organizations participating in the meeting arrived in Addis Ababa this evening.
Among the leaders are the President of Kenya, William Ruto, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Djibouti, Mohamed Ali.
Upon their arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, they were received by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Birtukan Ayano.
It is to be recalled that during its 4th Ordinary Assembly on June 12, IGAD named the leaders of Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti and South Sudan to lead the negotiations to resolve the conflict in Sudan.
Furthermore, reports indicate that a number of Sudanese politicians and civil society representatives have arrived in the Ethiopian capital to push for peaceful end to the ongoing conflict which has killed thousands, destroyed infrastructure, and displaced millions.
