Addis Ababa, February 18, 2024 (FBC) – Leaders and ministers of various countries visited the Adwa Victory Memorial which was inaugurated a few weeks ago by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa.
Many believe that victims of oppression gained their freedom and independence as a result of the victory of Adwa that sparked rebellion against conquerors throughout Africa and the rest of the world.
The Adwa Victory has a profound historical impact, establishing Pan-Africanism by being a pivotal moment in African history that enhanced the struggle against colonialism and injustice around the world.
The Adwa Victory Memorial was built at the heart of Addis Ababa in commemoration of Ethiopia’s victory against the Italian invaders in 1896.
The memorial houses a collection of artifacts, documents, and photographs among other things that depict the historical events of the Battle of Adwa, Ethiopian history, and the struggle against colonialism.
Among the dignitaries that paid a visit to the memorial were Success Masra, the prime minister of the Transitional Government of Chad, and Maria Helena Semedo, the deputy director general of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization along with several ministers and head of institutions of African countries.
In the majestically perched at 5 ha of land on the center of Addis Ababa, locally known as Piassa, the Adwa Victory Memorial symbolizes the valor and tenacity of Ethiopians against the Italian invaders.
The victory that ignited African as well as worldwide resistance against colonizers resulted in the freedom and independence of all those who were under oppression.
