LAPSSET delegation laud role of Modjo-Meki-Batu expressway in facilitating trade link in East Africa region
Addis Ababa, July 1, 2021 (FBC) – The delegation of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia corridor countries has paid a visit to recently completed Modjo-Meki-Batu Expressway phase one project.
During the visit, members of the delegation lauded the significance of the expressway in facilitating trade and investment ties in the East African region.
State Minister of the Transport Ministry, Kassahun Gofe and Ethiopian Roads Authority Director General, Engineer Habtamu Tegegn briefed the delegate on the activities Ethiopia has been undertaking to ensure better transportation and logistics system thereby create conducive environment for regional economic integration.
Ethiopian officials said that, as part of the Addis Ababa – Moyale-Nairobi-Mombasa, the express way has a crucial role in multifaceted socio-economic integration in the region.
The delegate further commended the contribution of the highway in fast tracking the African Continental Free Trade Area framework.
