Kalid Dijo Irrigation cannel construction commences

Addis Ababa, January 10, 2021 (FBC) – The construction of Kalid Dijo irrigation canal project has been commenced today in Silte Zone, Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR) in the presence of high ranking government officials and community representatives.

Deputy President of SNNPR and the Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy Ministry, Dr. Seleshi Bekele, the Peace Minister Muferiahat Kamil launched the project.

The irrigation canal to be constructed with an outlay of 1.19 Billion Birr is said to have 27 meters height and 1,731 length with a capacity of holding 8,000,000 metric cube water.

Up on its completion, the canal is expected to irrigate 1,800 ha of land facilitating water access to more than 2,200 livelihoods.
