Japanese delegation visits ENDF’s mine action department
Addis Ababa, July 17, 2024 (FBC) – A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) Mine Action Office (EMAO) today.
During their visit, the delegation members were briefed on the activities carried out by the office in pursuit of its mission. Additionally, they observed the general working conditions and training materials being used by the Mine Action Office.
Brigadier General Taddese Amelo, the head of the Ethiopian Mine Action Office (EMAO), stated on the occasion that the primary mission of his department is to de-mine explosives and snipers that have been buried during conflicts.
While the office is working to de-mine explosives and other mines in different parts of the country, it faces a shortage of resources and necessary materials, hindering its progress in the work, he stated.
Due to the shortage of resources and necessary materials, Brigadier General Taddese Amelo pointed out work could not be carried out at the desired speed.
For this reason, he appealed for the support of partners to aid in the progress of EMAO’s mission.
