Japan reaffirms support to Ethiopia’s efforts promoting peace and security in HoA region
Addis Ababa, January 2, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia has reaffirmed its continued support to the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) considering the significance of the platform in advancing the cooperation between Africa and Japan.
Prospects of continued cooperation between Ethiopia and TICAD were discussed during a meeting between the foreign minister of the east African nation, Gedion Timothewos, and Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, Hironori Shibata, at the Minister’s office today.
On the occasion, Gedion highlighted the century-long historic relationship between Ethiopia and Japan, reaffirming Ethiopia’s commitment to further strengthening this partnership.
He emphasized Japan’s significant contributions to Ethiopia’s economic development and technical cooperation. The Minister also urged Japan to continue its support for Ethiopia’s ongoing Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) programs.
FM Gedion noted the comprehensive economic reforms currently being implemented in Ethiopia, inviting Japanese companies to seize the burgeoning investment opportunities in his country.
He further expressed Ethiopia’s commitment to supporting the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), recognizing it as a vital platform for enhancing Africa-Japan relations.
Ambassador Shibata Hironori on his part affirmed his dedication to deepening the bilateral ties between Ethiopia and Japan, particularly in the economic sector.
The Ambassador also acknowledged Ethiopia’s crucial role in promoting peace and security in the region, reiterating Japan’s support for these efforts.
