IWPG Global Region 2, Ethiopian media discuss cooperation on peace
Addis Ababa, May 14, 2024 (FBC) – International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 2 discussed with various Ethiopian media on ways of cementing cooperation to promote peace.
The IWPG delegation led by the Regional Director of the Global Region 2, Seo-yeon Lee discussed with Deputy CEO of Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), Abel Adamu, on how to promote peace through joint media engagement.
On the occasion, Abel underscored the importance of participation of international partners like IWPG in building peace and accelerating development in Ethiopia, pledging commitment to collaborate with the organization in this regard.
The delegation also toured activities in various departments and ongoing reform works in FBC.
The IWPG delegation also conferred with Deputy CEO of Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), Negasi Abei on how to establish a mutual cooperation system. Meanwhile, the IWPG delegation explained the ‘Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)’ and announced that they were urging support for it to be submitted to the UN as a resolution.
Deputy CEO Negasi Abey said, “Peace is necessary for everyone, and peace activities are important for Ethiopia as well,” and added, “I agree to a business agreement for cooperation with IWPG and will attend the International Women’s Peace Conference in September.”
The delegation also consulted with CEO of Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), Getnet Tadesse on ways of promoting peacebuilding activities and exploring potential collaboration between the two organizations.
IWPG and EBC highlighted the role of media in peacebuilding efforts, leading to a promising agreement for future collaboration between IWPG and EBC.
“Peace is the basis for everything,” stated EBC CEO Genet Tadesse, adding: “EBC prioritizes peace in its broadcasting, and we fully support IWPG’s peacebuilding activities.”
IWPG, a women-led NGO with special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), works tirelessly to safeguard lives from the devastation of war and promote peace for future generations.
Headquartered in Seoul, Korea, IWPG collaborates with over 110 branches and 660 partner organizations worldwide to advance peace initiatives.
