ITC reaffirms commitment to further expanding its support to Ethiopia’s dev’t endeavors
Addis Ababa, October 23, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Permanent Representative to UN & Other International Organizations in Geneva Ambassador Tsegab met today with Mr. Escipion Joaquin Oliveira Gomez, Director of the Division of Enterprise Competitiveness and Institutions at the International Trade Center (ITC), at the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia in Geneva.
Mr. Gomez’s courtesy visit took place ahead of his upcoming trip to Addis Ababa for the World Without Hunger Conference, where he will also visit ITC projects in Ethiopia.
During the meeting, Ambassador Tsegab expressed his gratitude for ITC’s continued support and thanked Mr. Gomez for ITC’s participation in the World Without Hunger Conference.
He briefed Mr. Gomez on Ethiopia’s preparations for the event, emphasizing the importance of the conference as a unique platform to address urgent challenges related to hunger and food insecurity.
The Ethiopian envoy also highlighted the crucial role of international partnerships, such as with ITC, in advancing sustainable development in Ethiopia’s key sectors, including coffee, textiles production, marketing, and digital technologies.
In response, Mr. Gomez provided an overview of ITC’s ongoing support for Ethiopia, spotlighting key initiatives such as the Fifth Netherlands Trust Fund (NTF V), the COMESA Cross Border Trade Initiative, and the UK Trade Partnership Programme.
He emphasized how these projects are boosting Ethiopia’s trade competitiveness, particularly in agribusiness and digital technology.
