Italy welcomes release of former Derg officials

Addis Ababa, December 29, 2020 (FBC) –Italy Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emanuela Del Re, has welcomed the release of former Derg officials.

The two officials, Lt Col Berhanu Bayeh and Lt Gen Addis Tedla had been sheltered for almost 30 years in the Italian Embassy in Addis Ababa.

In a twitter post, the Vice Minister said “Many thanks to the Ethiopian Authorities for granting probation to Berhanu Bayeh & Addis Tedla.”

“An old page of history is definitely turned. Italy and Ethiopia share a long and prosperous future together,” she added.
