Italy expresses interest in collaborating with Ethiopia on renewable energy projects
Addis Ababa, November 27, 2024 (FBC) – Italy has shown a strong interest in partnering with Ethiopia to explore renewable energy opportunities. Ethiopian Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Ittefa, held discussions with Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Giorgio Silli, to explore potential collaborations.
During their meeting, Minister Habtamu highlighted Ethiopia’s focus on the sustainable development and management of water resources, emphasizing ongoing efforts to enhance access to drinking water. He noted the country’s significant advancements in renewable energy, particularly in wind power, geothermal energy, and the transformative role of solar energy in modernizing its agricultural economy. He also mentioned the favorable conditions for producing green hydrogen and encouraged investments in Ethiopia’s energy and other sectors.
Additionally, the Minister pointed out ongoing developments in infrastructure, urban livability, and agricultural initiatives, including the supply of wheat to international markets.
Deputy Minister Giorgio Silli acknowledged Italy’s collaborative projects in Ethiopia and underscored the country’s abundant renewable energy resources, which present substantial opportunities for green energy investments. He praised the Ethiopian government’s supportive environment for these ventures and reiterated Italy’s commitment to leveraging its extensive experience in the green energy sector to foster collaboration with Ethiopia.
