Italy desirous to deepen bilateral ties with Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, June 23, 2020 (FBC) – The foreign Affairs Minister, Gedu Andargachew held phone conversations with his Italian counterpart, Luigi Di Maio on bilateral issues.
During their telephone discussions, the two ministers focused on ways cementing the bilateral relations between their respective countries and consolidating mutual cooperation to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The two also exchanged views on developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Gedu expressed gratitude to Italy for supporting Ethiopia’s reform activities and reaffirmed commitment of his country to further strengthen its ties with Italy in all spheres of cooperation.
He also delivered condolences to Italians who lost lives of their beloved ones amid the pandemic and briefed his counterpart on Ethiopia’s responsive actions against coronavirus.
Ethiopia is keen to continue to work cooperatively with Italy and the international community at large to combat the pandemic, Gedu said.
Gedu briefed the Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio on the trilateral negations Ethiopia has been holding with Sudan and Egypt on the filling and rules and guidelines of the annual operations of the Grand Dam.
The Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, to his part said his country is committed to further deepen its bilateral relations with Ethiopia.
Luigi Di Maio also pledged that Italy is committed to jointly work with Ethiopia in the fight against the pandemic.
Italy encourages Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt to resolve their disputes on GERD through trilateral dialogue, Luigi Di Maio added.
