Islamic Affairs Supreme Council calls on international community to support IDPs in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, December 22, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council has called on the international community to support IDPs in Ethiopia.
President of the Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, Grand Mufti Haji Omar Idris has given press briefing to local and international media on current affairs in Ethiopia.
Grand Mufti Haji Omar Idris recalled that religious leaders had exerted various efforts to prevent the war from happening through mediation and reconciliation.
The president explained that the conflict has resulted in significant loss of lives and destruction religious institutions and many other private and public properties.
Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council has been conducting a survey to identify extent of destruction caused by the conflict.
Appreciating the support being delivered by Ethiopia to people affected by aggression of TPLF, the Grand Mufti called for continued support to reinstatement of IDPs.
Saying that remarkable victories have been registered against the aggressor TPLF, he stressed need to consolidation of efforts to reinstate the IDPs in Afar and Amhara regions in a sustainable manner.
Bank accounts have been opened for financial support to be mobilized, the Grand Mufti said, calling the international community to the rehabilitation process.
The president further called on religious fathers to foster peaceful mechanisms to return situation to normalcy.
