Iran, South Africa FMs discuss issues of mutual interests
Addis Ababa, August 10, 2023 (FBC) – Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian has met with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor to discuss the most significant bilateral and international issues relating to both sides.
On the sidelines of the 15th meeting of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between Iran and South Africa, the two foreign ministers met in the host country on Thursday.
Amirabdollahian arrived at Pretoria Airport early Thursday morning, when he was welcomed by South African officials at the airport. He announced before the trip that the purpose of his trip is to hold a joint economic cooperation commission between the two sides after a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
According to the Iranian diplomat, President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa invited his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi to attend the Friends of BRICS Summit, which will be held at the level of heads of member states of the organization on August 24, and that a trip of the Iranian President to South Africa has been planned for the coming fall.
South Africa is a significant country on the African continent that Iran has had long-standing relationship with, and the full revitalization of the ties is one of the plans on the agenda of President Raisi’s trip to the African country, Amirabdollahian argued.
