International Convening for Ethiopia Digital Extension and Advisory Services kicks off in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, June 16, 2022 (FBC) – International Convening for Ethiopian Digital Extension and Advisory Services (DAEAS) Roadmap was organized in Addis Ababa. The two day convening was held in the presence of high-level government officials, stakeholders, development partners and other dignitaries.
The DAEAS digital roadmap and forum was organized aiming to enhance stallholder farmers’ access to good quality and timely digital agricultural extension and advisory services, as well as to help institutions support each other by minimizing duplication of resources and finding synergies.
Oumer Hussein, Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, in his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of digital technology as an engine for development and prosperity of farmers.
“DAEAS is a way to provide equal access to information and opportunity for our people. This DAEAS roadmap is about empowering and enabling formers, by providing access to information and letting them chart their own path,” he underlined.
State Minister of Innovation and Technology Ministry, Huria Ali in her keynote specified how agriculture is identified in Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy as one of the four paths towards prosperity.
“In the past years, Ethiopia has visibly been moving towards a digital economy across different sectors including the banking and telecom industries,” Huria noted.
The DAEAS roadmap is now the concrete plan on how to digitize the agriculture sector and bring prosperity for Ethiopian formers, she added.
