International conference on Ethiopia’s draft transitional justice laws underway
Addis Ababa, December 10, 2024 (FMC) – A two-day International Conference on Ethiopia’s Draft Transitional Justice Laws has commenced at Sheraton Addis Hotel in Addis Ababa this morning.
The event is organized by the FDRE Ministry of Justice and the Institute for Security Studies to discuss the country’s transitional justice draft laws.
The conference aimed to Enhance Legislative Frameworks for transitional justice in Ethiopia through comparative Insights for Sustainable Accountability and Reconciliation, according to the Ministry.
On the occasion, Justice Minister, Ms. Hanna Araya-Selassie, Federal Supreme Court Vice President, Ms. Abeba Embiale, Institute for Security Studies’ Regional Director for East Africa and Representative to the African Union, Dr. Paul-Simon Handy, and other international experts are present at the conference She was discovered.
The draft law frameworks prepared to implement Ethiopia’s transitional justice policy were presented at the opening session of the Conference.
In her opening remarks, Justice Minister Ms. Hanna Araya-Selassie said this international conference is a crucial platform to garner ideas for the implementation of the TJ policy, and highlighted the inclusiveness of the country’s transitional justice policy.
For her part, Federal Supreme Court Vice President Ms. Abeba Embiale said Ethiopia’s transitional justice policy has been crafted in a transparent manner.
According to her, this Conference is organized in view of fulfilling the goals of transitional justice policy.
Meanwhile, Paul-Simon Handy said transitional justice plays a crucial role for lasting peace.
