Inquiry Board supervises State of Emergency implementation in Tigray
Addis Ababa, December 23, 2020 (FBC) –Members of the State of Emergency Inquiry Board have supervised the implementation of the state of emergency effective only in Tigray region as of November 5, 2020 following the start of law enforcement operation in the region.
They have also supervised the implementation of the state of emergency in light of treatment of captives in Shire and other areas who surrendered to the National Defense Force during the law enforcement operation carried out in the region.
During the supervision, members of the TPLF special sorce and Militia who surrendered to the national army in Shire Inda Sellassie, Tigray disclosed to the State of Emergency Inquiry Board that they entered the war due to a compulsion from the clique without their consent to the conflict.
The captives further explained to the Inquiry Board that they had no prior information about the conflict atrocity which the TPLF clique opened against the national army.
They assured the inquiry board that they are being well treated in accordance with their rights calling concerned bodies to address some issues related to shortage of clean water in the area.
Inquiry Board also discussed with military commanders of the national army in the area on the treatment of the captives and the current situation in Shire town.
The military commanders told the board that studies are being conducted how to respond to issues related to the captives adding that a wide range of activities are underway to return the people of the area back to normal condition.
The Inquiry Board further commended the current humanitarian responses and rehabilitation activities in the region urged all stakeholders to keep momentum of the activities.
