IMF chief to visit Ethiopia for high-level engagements
Addis Ababa, January 30, 2025 (FMC) — The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, will undertake an official visit to Ethiopia for two days (February 8, and February 9, 2025) to engage in high-level discussions with the country’s leadership and key stakeholders.
This will mark the Managing Director’s first visit in Ethiopia after her appointment in 2019, according to the Ethiopian finance ministry.
During the visit, the Managing Director will meet with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and senior government officials to discuss Ethiopia’s economic outlook, policy priorities, and ongoing reforms.
The visit will also include interactions with representatives from the private sector, to exchange perspectives on the business environment and economic opportunities in Ethiopia. In addition to these engagements, the Managing Director will visit social and development sites.
This visit reaffirms the IMF’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s economic development and fostering dialogue on policies aimed at ensuring resilience, and shared and lasting prosperity.
