IGAD, Sweden sign grant agreement for displaced persons’ protection and solutions
Addis Ababa, May 8, 2024 (FBC) – IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development) and the government of Sweden have signed a grant agreement to enhance protection and provide comprehensive solutions for forcibly displaced persons in the IGAD region, marking a crucial step towards addressing the challenges faced by displaced individuals in the region.
The agreement was signed by IGAD Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu, and Ambassador of Sweden to Ethiopia and Djibouti & Permanent Representative to the African Union, IGAD and UNECA, Hans Henric Lundquist.
In the course of discussions, the Swede envoy lauded IGAD’s proactive endeavors in advancing regional peace and stability, affirming their unwavering support for the organization’s initiatives.
In response, Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu conveyed his gratitude to the Government of Sweden for their steadfast support as they join forces to address this critical issue.
“This partnership reaffirms our unwavering commitment to safeguarding and offering comprehensive solutions for forcibly displaced persons within the IGAD region. My sincere thanks go out to the Government of Sweden for their steadfast support as we join forces to address this critical issue,” the Executive Secretary wrote on his social media page after signing the agreement.
