IGAD launches Djibouti-Addis Ababa train mission
Addis Ababa, July 2, 2023 (FBC) – Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) today launched train mission for regional integration from Djibouti City to Addis Ababa.
Conforming to IGAD’s Vision 2050, this project aims to enhance the multifaceted ties between Ethiopia and Djibouti in the areas of migration and mobility, business and investment, tourism, people to people relationships, diaspora engagement, it is indicated.
Present among others at the launching ceremony were Berhanu Tsegaye, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Djibouti, Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of IGAD, and Mr. Sirag Omar Abdulkader, Secretary General at the Ministry of Interior of Djibouti.
Officiating the launch of the IGAD Train Mission for Regional Collaboration departing today from Djibouti railway station to Addis Ababa, Workneh Gebeyehu, IGAD Executive Secretary, stated: “This railway has not only facilitated economic and social growth, but through positive migration and human mobility, has also brought the people of Ethiopia and Djibouti closer together.
He added that the partnership between the two countries, characterized by trade integration and mobility, is an important example of regional solidarity.
“It paves the way for greater regional collaboration so that we can realize a future where prosperity, understanding, and collaboration flourish across borders,” Workneh underscored.
Recall that the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia confirmed a few days ago that Djiboutian delegation is scheduled to arrive in Ethiopia early this month.
