70th IGAD Council of Ministers meeting held in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2020 (FBC) –The 70th IGAD Extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting has been held in Addis Ababa on the sidelines of the 33rd AU Ordinary Summit.

During the meeting, Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), called for more efforts to bring the needed results in South Sudan.

“The Council need to actively engage in the peace process in South Sudan by providing the much-needed political and technical support” the Executive Secretary stated.

“Since the peace process in South Sudan is currently at a pivotal moment, I call upon the Council, our partners & the international community to redouble all efforts towards peace-building, & capitalise on the existing goodwill in South Sudan to maintain the momentum towards a successful conclusion,” he said.

The 34th IGAD Extra-Ordinary Summit will take place this afternoon.
