IGAD calls for enhancement of early warning capacities at regional level
Addis Ababa, July 16, 2022 (FBC) – IGAD’s Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu (PhD) is in Lusaka to attend the 41st Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the AU and the 4th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting with Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
Addressing the session, Executive Secretary Workneh welcomes the pre-launch of the Inter-regional knowledge exchange on early warning and conflict prevention acknowledging its potential to improve the link between early warning and early response with conflict prevention and preventive diplomacy tools.
“IGAD is happy to be part of the launch of the Inter-regional knowledge exchange on early warning and conflict prevention (I-RECKE) which will remedy for this big gap,” he noted.
“IGAD is very pleased that this platform squarely addresses the challenges arising from ad-hoc collaborations on conflict prevention and early warning. You have my full and personal assurance that IGAD looks forward to being an active part of this initiative,” he added.
He called for the enhancement of early warning capacities and enhanced collaboration.
