ICRC reaffirms commitment to provide assistance to conflict affected people
Addis Ababa, January 15, 2020 (FBC) – President Sahle-Work Zewde met with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) , Peter Maurer.
In a discussion held at the National Palace, Maurer reaffirmed ICRC’s commitment in providing humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and ethnic violence.
The ICRC President arrived in Addis Ababa last Sunday for a three-day official visit.
During his stay in Ethiopia, he visited communities living on the border of Somali and Oromia regional states.
He also met with Deputy Chief Administrator of the Somali regional state, Mustefe Mohammed to discuss the humanitarian assistance being provided by ICRC to people affected by ethnic violence in the region.
The International Committee of the Red Cross resumed its operations in the region in 2018 after 11 years of absence.
