House, U.S Embassy in Addis Ababa discuss parliamentary cooperation

Addis Ababa, February 12, 2021 (FBC) – Chairperson of Foreign Relations and Peace Affaris Standing Committee of the House of Peoples Representatives, Dr. Negeri Lencho consulted with Political and Economic Section at U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa on ways of reinforcing parliament level partnership between the two countries.

While briefing personnel of the U.S. Embassy political and economic section on latest developments in Ethiopia, Dr. Negeri, underlining that democratization is gradual process, said the parliament is working jointly with democratic institutions which are in the right track to expedite the multifaceted change in the country.

The house has so far approved a hate speech and disinformation prevention and suppression proclamation which is under implementation to ensure peace and stability, he said.

The parliament is playing its active role in the democracy building process in Ethiopia, the Chairperson told the political and economic expert.

Regarding the law enforcement measures taken against TPLF Junta, the Chairperson said Cyber wing of the ousted group named “Digital Woyane”, using false flags, has been spreading misinformation and disinformation intended to disorganize the longstanding harmony of Ethiopians.

“Nobody has participated in perpetrating the Anti-Ethiopia cyber campaign other than TPLF,” he stressed.

Saying that the parliament was in close engagement of partnership with its U.S. counterpart, he expressed interest to invigorate the cooperation.

Political and economic section at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, to its part, reaffirmed commitment of the U.S. to work in collaboration with Ethiopia in the political and other fields of cooperation.
