House lifts immunity of 38 individuals

Addis Ababa, November 12, 2020 (FBC) –The House of Peoples Representatives (HPR) has unanimously approved a resolution by the Attorney General lifting the immunity from prosecution of a total of 38 individuals.

The House revoked the immunity of Dr Debretsion Gebremichael, Asmelash Weldesenbet, Abay Tsehaye, Dr Amb Addisalem Balema, Getachew Reda, Atsebeha Aregawi, Gebregziabher Araya and other TPLF members.

They are accused of armed rebellion against the Government, committing attacks against the Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF) and other related crimes.

In a related development, the House endorsed the appointment of Fikre Gebrehiwot to fill the vacant post at the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE).

His appointment took into consideration his work experiences and educational background. Fikre Gebrehiwot is an instructor at the Addis Ababa University (AAU).

Similarly, the House approved the draft bill to amend the excise tax law.
