House approves supplementary budget
Addis Ababa, May 29, 2020 (FBC) –The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) in its 4th special session today approved a supplementary budget proposed by the Council of Ministers.
It is to be recalled that the Council of Ministers, in its 79th regular session held in February, approved a 27.89 billion birr additional budget for this fiscal year.
In the meeting held at the Prime Minister office, the House approved the additional budget unanimously.
In his briefing to the House, Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, said the country envisaged securing a total of 48.3 billion birr to deal with the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Of the total, 28.3 billion birr will be raised from external and 20 billion birr from local sources, he said.
The House also unanimously ratified the electronic transaction draft bill and a bill amending the existing geothermal resource development proclamation.
It also referred other bills to pertinent standing committees for further scrutiny.
