HPR approves bill to avoid double taxation, prevent tax evasion

Addis Ababa, May 30, 2023 (FBC) – The House of People’s Representatives approved today a proposed bill to avoid double taxation and to prevent tax evasion.

The FDRE House of Peoples’ Representatives is holding its 23rd regular session today.

The House deliberated on a bill of income tax between Ethiopia, Switzerland and the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

HPR approved the bill after thorough discussion on the report and recommendations of the Planning, Budget and Finance Standing Committee regarding the proposed bill to avoid overlapping taxes and prevent tax evasion in the countries.

It is indicated that the Standing Committee has discussed the importance of the draft bill with the Legal Advisor of the Ministry of Finance in various forums.

The members of the House stated that the draft bill can redress the gaps faced in tax evasion and strengthen the relations between the countries.
