House approves a draft proclamation to amend Ethiopian Ombudsman Institution
Addis Ababa, November 21, 2023 (FBC) – The House of Peoples Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has approved the proclamation amending the Ethiopian Institution of the Ombudsman.
During its 3rd Year 6th ordinary session, the House approved two draft bills including the one which is aimed at reforming the Ombudsman Institution.
The approval came after close scrutiny of the report regarding presented to the house the bill proposed to amend the establishment proclamation of the Ethiopian Ombudsman Institution.
Expanding the responsibilities of the Institution, the amendment aims to receive and investigate complaints from employees on administrative abuses committed by private institutions.
The amended document is said to grant privilege to investigators to be able to discharge their responsibilities with full composure.
It was stated on the occasion that special rights and benefits of employees are included in the revised decree and there are mainly five issues.
Speaker of the House of People Representatives, Tagesse Chaffo, stated on the occasion that the house will take actions against institutions that do not accept the reports, decisions and opinions of the Ombudsman institution and do not take the necessary corrections and adjustments.
On the other hand, the house examined a report referred to it by parliament’s Standing Committee on Democracy regarding the draft regulation of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation’s Staff Administration Proclamation and approved it with a majority vote and two against the draft law.
