Homecoming enables second-generation diaspora to contribute their expertise to Ethiopia’s development: Experts
Addis Ababa, January 4, 2024 (FBC) – The call made by the government for the second-generation diaspora Ethiopians to come home provides them with an opportunity to engage their expertise and experience in the development endeavors in their country of origin, experts exclusively told FBC.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has so far called on the second-generation people of Ethiopian origin in the Diaspora to come home in three rounds of homecoming programs.
Approached by FBC, experts from various sectors lauded the homecoming program as a great opportunity for the second-generation diaspora to play their part in the overall development activities in Ethiopia.
Teshale Sebro (PhD), a Political Science and International Relations expert, noted that the second-generation diaspora should make it their first task to understand the status of their country. “And this is the right time to do so,” he stressed.
Teshale explained that the homecoming will create an opportunity for the second generation Ethiopians living abroad to provide the experiences and knowledge they have acquired in different countries for the development of the country.
Dugasa Mulugeta (PhD), an economic researcher and lecturer at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, emphasized the importance of the homecoming call in harnessing diaspora’s immense potentials in the investment, technology and research spheres for nation’s development.
Teshale further called on the second-generation diaspora to act as ambassadors of their country in attracting investments to Ethiopia.
