HoF approves request for new regional state

Addis Ababa, October 6, 2020 (FBC) –The House of Federation (HoF) has unanimously approved a request made by  five zones and one special woreda in south-western Ethiopia to integrate into one regional state.

The House’s approval comes following their request for autonomy, stating their proximity in language, culture, history, and geographical location as reasons.

The request was submitted by Kafa, Bench, Sheko, west Omo, Dawro, and Sheka zones and Konta special woreda, according to ENA.

After an in-depth deliberation, the House unanimously approved a resolution holding a referendum by the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE).
