Health professionals’ competency assessment a key for quality service: Ministry
Addis Ababa, October 13, 2020 (FBC) – Ministry of Health stressed the need for Health Professionals Competency Assessment and Certification to enable the community get access to quality health care services.
In a press conference held today, State Minister of Minisry of Helath Alemtsehay Paulos said the country has resumed evaluation and certification of health care professionals which was stopped due to the pandemic.
Evaluation aims to bridge skill gaps in health workers thereby realize quality services in the sector, Alemtsehay noted.
The state minister noted that the evaluation process deals with issuance of certification for first degree graduates who pass the required examinations and get qualified for standards put in place to improve the service delivery.
Ministry explained that the system helps screen out professionals who have skilled gaps, and help them get qualified through practical professional assessment.
The competency based examination will be given to professionals graduated in Medicine, Nursing, Health Officer, Anesthesia, medical laboratory technology and midwifery.
The ministry has put in place a system that enable failed examinees to retake assessments till they get qualified for certification, Health Professionals Competency Assessment and Licensure Director at the Ministry of Health Dr. Tewodros Abebaw stated.
