Hawassa – Chiko Asphalt Road Project, a 66km high way completed
Addis Ababa, October 6, 2020 (FBC) – The construction of Hawassa-Chiko Asphalt Road run at a cost of 1.1 Billion Birr has been completed, the Ethiopian Roads Authority announced.
The newly completed project is said a part of the Mombasa-Nairobi-Addis Ababa Road Corridor.
Authority said the road will have a paramount significance in connecting towns of the area and central parts of the nation with agricultural sites, industries and tourist attraction sites.
The road also would help reduce transportation and labor costs for it has been built as a shortcut to several places.
According to the Authority, the road will play a significant role in facilitating better transpiration for agricultural produces to be conveyed to the Kenyan Mombasa Port, and to imports to be picked from the port and delivered to interior part of the country.
Hawassa-Chiko Road also creates conducive transportation access for coffee exporters as pathway to the global market.
The Authority added the asphalt road will contribute its part in cementing people to People Relationships between Ethiopia and Kenya.
The Hawassa-Chiko road has been constructed by the Chinese Sinohydro Corporation Ltd. with an outlay of 1.1 Billion Birr loan secured from African Development Bank.
