Gun owners urged to register firearms in two years

Addis Ababa, May 4, 2020 (FBC) -Attorney General Adanech Abiebie has urged gun owners to register their firearms in the upcoming two years.

Scores of people currently possessed firearm without a license, thus posing a threat to peace and stability of the country, she said.

The Attorney General told ENA that gun owners are required to register over the coming two years.

Ethiopia early this year passed a new law to regulate weapons’ possession and combat illegal trafficking of firearms.

The law prohibits import, export, possess, put, store, use, exhibit, broker, sale, buy, transfer, transport, manufacture, train, repair and dispose firearms without valid license.

The law shall not be applicable on defense forces and national intelligence and security services.
