Gov’t plans to increase role of construction industry in nation’s economy
Addis Ababa, December 2, 2020 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed said the Government will provide all needed support to improve the productivity of the construction industry.
He made the remark at the 2nd national construction industry forum opened today at ECA under the theme “Competitive Indigenous Construction Industry for Ethiopia’s Prosperity.”
Speaking at the event that brought together stakeholders, the Prime Minister said that the construction industry is one of engines for the economic growth of a country.
However, “the sector is susceptible to corruption and theft,” he said, adding “it is difficult to bring prosperity unless a corruption-free construction industry is realized.”
He said the Government is committed to offer the necessary support to the sector in order to increase its role in the country’s economy for the coming 10 years.
At the end, the Prime Minister called on construction companies to be free of corruption and do quality works for the growth of the country.
The forum, which was organized by the Ministry of Urban Development and Construction (MoUDC) to address the bottlenecks in the construction industry, will continue until tomorrow.
