Gov’t, partners affirm uninterrupted aid delivery in north Ethiopia

Addis Ababa March 11, 2023 (FBC) –The government of Ethiopian and humanitarian partners’ joint report stated that humanitarian supplies are being consistently delivered to people affected by the conflict in northern Ethiopia.

According to the weekly report, the dispatch and distribution of supplies as well as delivery of assistance to conflict affected across northern Ethiopia has continued uninterrupted since last week.

In Amhara, 95 percent of targeted food beneficiaries received assistance up from 89 percent last week, while 49 percent targeted food beneficiaries received assistance in Tigray, up from 32 percent last week.

According to the report, despite positive developments in the humanitarian operation in the conflict-ridden area, challenges continue to hinder the humanitarian response. Some 9.4 million people required food assistance across northern Ethiopia in 2023.

Round three, in Afar the food supplies (9.268 MT) required for the latest food distribution cycle has been fully dispatched to storages and distribution points in the state as of February 27. Round five, in Amhara, 95 % of food supplies required for the most recent targeted beneficiaries were dispatched as of February 27, while in round five of 45 % of the required supplies for the latest targets were dispatched to Tigrayas of March 1.

Regarding the humanitarian cargo delivery per category between mid-November 2022 and 16 February 2023 in Tigray, out of the total 5,173 trucks which required a support letter from the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC), 5,150 attained the latter.

Likewise, the total number of trucks with food and non-food supplies that arrived in Tigray was 5,213, whereas 1.3 million liters of fuel reached the area. The report also indicated that some 184,587 and 23,855 metric tons of food and non-food supplies arrived in Tigray respectively, according to EPA.

The report further emphasized that it was targeted in round 5 as of 27 February 2023, to reach 654,339 beneficiaries in Afar in food response and it managed to achieve 664, 339 (103 %), while 9,268 metric tons of food was required, it was possible to dispatch 9,263 metric tons.

In Amhara, it was targeted to reach 2.55 million beneficiaries in the state and it was managed to reach 2.4 million (95 %), whereas out of 43,233 metric tons of food was planned to reach out to the unreached, it was possible to distribute 41,846 metric Report shows expanding of aid delivery to conflict-ridden areas tons.

In Tigray, it was targeted to reach 5.3 million beneficiaries in the state in food response during round 3, and 2.6 million (45 %) could be reached. Moreover, 91,373 metric tons of food was required, and 44,848 metric tons were distributed as of 1 March.
