Gov’t commitment, sectoral harmony key for efficacy of WASH project: Minister
Addis Ababa, October 20, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) stressed that the concerted efforts between different sectors has enabled the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program to be effective in the country.
The Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Itefa, is participating in the “All System Go Africa” Symposium being held in Accra, Ghana.
The Minister said, during a panel discussion, the effectiveness of the WASH program in Ethiopia is a reference to the government’s commitment and the coordination between sectors.
Thus, the coordination between the water, education, health and financial sectors has enabled the implementation of this program to be effective, he added.
The Minister also stated that the commencement of Revolving Loan Fund Service for the construction of drinking water infrastructure applied at the regional level is another good experience in the sector.
In order to achieve the development goals of the sector by 2030, he explained that the Ministry will focus on gathering resources, revising the policies of the sector, creating favorable conditions, using indigenous water harvesting technologies, and strengthening cooperation and support with development partner organizations.
The ongoing symposium is jointly organized by the Government of Ghana, UNICEF and IRC WASH.
