Gov’t Approves US$1.3B for 25M Quintals of Soil Fertilizer Procurement
Addis Ababa, September 2, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopian Agricultural Businesses Corporation (EABC) today announced that the government has approved 1.3 billion US dollars for the procurement of 25 million quintals of soil fertilizer for the 2024/25 cultivation season.
The corporation disclosed that it has initiated the procurement process to import DAP and Urea soil fertilizers for irrigated agriculture during the 2024/25 (2017/18 E.C) cultivation season.
Accordingly, it has been stated that 25 million quintals of soil fertilizer will be purchased for the 2024/25 growing season. Additionally, activities have commenced to provide DAP and Urea soil fertilizers for irrigated agriculture starting from this month.
In that regard, the government has approved 1.3 billion US dollars for the procurement of 25 million quintals of soil fertilizer, which includes 13 million quintals of Urea and 12 million quintals of DAP.
It has been stated that out of the 20 million quintals of soil fertilizer procured for the 2023/24 cultivation season, 18.8 million quintals have been successfully transported into the country. These fertilizers have been and are currently being distributed to farmers through basic cooperatives for their use in the cultivation season.
